Canon 60D with 18-135mm lens
Before we look at what some users have to say about the Canon 60D, let me give you a summary of what the consensus is on certain areas: For lens quality, the reviewers checked gave it an average score of 88%. If we are to go by the star rating, this means the lens quality gets something like a 4.4 star rating.
For battery performance, it gets 96% or 4.8 stars which means it has very good battery life. The construction quality gets a score of 94% or 4.7 stars while the controls (ease, efficiency and such) gets 92% or 4.6 stars. Canon EOS 60D DSLR Camera (Video Review 1)
User 1: Your expectation will play a very big role in how you rate this camera. Based on mine, I think it fits between the T2i and 7D. I believe the manufacturers were careful to maintain a balance that would make it more attractive to photographers than the T2i without competing with the 7D. Here are my observations…
*Yes, it doesn’t have a magnesium alloy body like some might expect but it still has that solid feel. If you have small hands, it will suit you well. It is much lighter than the Canon 7D and is also more comfortable in my own opinion.
*It has a more “current” design that gives the impression of a superior camera. You will get the right feeling of stiffness in the hinges for the screen that gives you the assurance that it will hold its own.
*The articulating screen also makes it a lot easier for you to capture certain scenes more easily without the need for extra equipment like its predecessors.
Canon 60D-Body only
*You will find it hard to tell the difference between pictures taken with it and those taken by either the T2i or the &D. It delivers top-quality and beautiful pictures.
*It comes with in-camera post-production options. This is a good thing even if they are NOT going to replace your post-production gear in any way (nor where they meant to). It does give you serious options for some of those times when on-the-fly effects need to be added.
*Its autofocus is fast and accurate, it’s definitely NOT up to the 7D but is far superior to what you get in T2i.
My summary is that you’d get a good camera whichever of the three you pick. That said, the Canon T2i is best if you are a starter who wants great pictures but won’t definitely need a lot of the features of its bigger siblings. The Canon 60D is excellent if you need something superior but can’t pay spend the extra hundreds of dollars you’d have to get the Canon 7D.

Canon 60D Camera (Video Review 2)
User 2: I give this a five star rating. I consider this to be a solid prosumer DSLR/Video camera. Here are the things I like about it…
*It takes wonderful pictures even if you are NOT using top-of-the-range lenses.
*The noise level at high ISO speeds are quite manageable.
*The feel is very close to that of the 7D even though this isn’t made of magnesium alloy.
*The autofocus is very good. It does its transitioning very well.
*At close to 6 FPS, it has pretty fast shooting speed. The options for normal and high speed are good additions.
*The software it comes with is great. It allows you to control it through a computer.
*The flip-out rotating screen is one of the best I’ve set my eyes on when it comes to DSLRs. It is sharp — Very sharp. If you want to shoot video, it makes your work a lot easier. It is easier to get difficult shots while maintaining a stable hand since you can easily place the screen at the angle that’s most convenient for you.
Canon 60D with 18-200mm lens
*The general video performance delivered by this camera is simply excellent. You simply can’t get what this camera achieves on a camcorder unless you spend some money on very expensive lens adapters.
*The manual control options you have. You have total control over your audio, image and video.
Now that I’ve pointed out the things I love about the Canon EOS 60D 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera, here are things I don’t really like that much…
*The way the lock button on mode selector makes changing shooting mode a 2-handed task instead of a one-handed task.
*I am NOT happy with the absence of certain dedicated buttons even though it’s understandable that space had to be saved to accomodate the screen.
*I don’t consider the in-camera processing to be necessary since you can’t transmit it without connecting to a computer one way or the other. Would have made more sense if the camera came with some 3G capability.
*The noise level at high ISO with the stock lens. Just don’t use it in low-light shooting unless you have better lenses.
*The slow auto focus when recording video. For best results, use manual focus.
In spite of these negatives I pointed out, I still give it a five star rating. It’s just so good as a combination of DSLR and video camera that it gets that much from me. If you can handle manual focusing and don’t want to spend the extra on a 7D, this is one camera that won’t disappoint you.

Canon 50D DSLR Camera
User 1: I give this camera a five star rating. Here are some points I think you should take note of…
*Although the LCD screen remains unchanged, there’s been a substantial increase in resolution (920,000 dots from 230,000 dots). What this means you can check how sharp your images are in playback more easily. In addition to this, you now also have a two layer anti-reflective coating. This makes it a lot easier for you to check your images even in bright sunlight.
*The 15.1 megapixel CMOS sensor is another good addition which gives you better resolutions in your images. If you are a casual photographer, you might NOT appreciate this but for those who have to get their shots fast and then do some cropping later, this is very helpful.
*I love the improvement of the Auto ISO range which is 100 to 1600. But note that although the auto ISO range of the Canon 50D is a lot more flexible than that of the 40D, I still consider that of the Nikon D300 to be actually superior.

Canon 50D body only
*The Face Detect live view mode. This is something that some folks actually got used to in some point-and-shoot cameras. If you are one of those folks who really love this feature, you’ve got it back on a DSLR. However, for folks from point-and-shoot backgrounds, the live view on the 50D is a lot different from what you are used to.
There are quite lots of features to talk about as far as the Canon 50D is concerned. That said, I’ll encourage you to spend some time looking at what real users have to say about it here (Amazon product reviews page). That will go a long way in helping you decide whether it’s actually in your best interest to go for this camera or NOT.
So for those who want to make their decision here and now, you need to ask yourself the following questions: Does this camera meet my requirements for the moment? Is it too far above my photography skills or is it something that I can actually handle (What’s the point in buying a camera that you really can’t make the best use of)? Does it fit nicely into your budget and does it really suit your taste?
These and other questions like these are imperative if you want to ensure you get the best out of this camera or any other one for that matter.

Canon EOS 50D 15.1MP DSLR
User 2: No matter how you look at it, this is definitely a great camera. For folks who might be concerned about noise levels (that is, in comparison to the 40D), I dare say that the 50D beat or equaled the 40D in almost all instances when we did comparison shots. The only exception was when shooting indoors and dull colors.
But all in all, the results we got with the 50D were very impressive. The details we got with the 50D were such that the 40D couldn’t even come close to. To cut a long story short, I liked what I saw when we did those comparison shots with a borrowed 50D and a friend’s 40D that I ended up buying one for myself.

So do I recommend it? Yes, why else would I buy one after extensive testing.

Review 2: It’s important that I point out from the onset that this review won’t go the way of most reviews. No, it won’t go doing feature by feature analysis (There are enough pages that offer that value). It will concentrate on the high points and negative points in a list form so you can make a quick but well-informed decision on whether you should buy it or look for another camera.
The High Points of the Canon EOS 7D 18 MP…
1. The fact that you have more MPs in a crop sensor is a major achievement. This means you can easily have bigger prints and much more cropping power. For example, if you are stuck with a 300mm while shooting wildlife (But you definitely know you need a 400mm) then with the 7D, you don’t really have a problem. All you have to do is simple crop down your files by up to 50%. Your pictures will still remain very sharp. I simply can’t say it better. The picture this camera delivers is simply whooping.
2. In spite of the extra MPs, you don’t have noisier pictures (Which was a fear most folks actually had). If you shoot at ISO100, you simply can’t distinguish between the 7D and the 5D MKII — Both produce very clean files.
3. There is a major improvement in the area of focus. This was one serious issue with previous 1.6 crop cameras. The 7D is clearly better than the 5D MKII in focus speed and accuracy.
4. Apart from the most demanding professionals who shoot very fast moving object, the drive chain is faster than what you would ever need.
5. Full frame cameras used to be known for much better ISO performance than crop cameras. However, the Canon EOS 7D 18 MP has changed that.
Canon 7D body only
6. It has a sturdy build which you will feel the moment you handle it. You will also notice that care has been taken to adapt its design to making it easier for you to work with. But don’t make the mistake of expecting to wear this one round your neck for any reasonable length of time — It’s quite heavy. Still on the build, you’ll notice improvements on the weather sealing.
7. The 7D is packed full of value for the price you pay. Now, you can get to do professional work without paying the usual high price associated with it.
Here are other things (Cons or Negatives) you should know about the 7D…
1. If you are a wedding photographer or usually find yourself having to shoot in a crowded room or space with low lighting, the Canon 7D isn’t for you. You’ll be hard-pressed to get the wide angles you want unless you have special lenses like the 10-22mm EFS or 8-15 F4L Fisheye.
2. It is difficult, if NOT impossible, to limit how high the ISo jumps if you are using it in auto in low light. It jumps as high as ISO 3200 when you will get acceptable results at ISO 1600 — To achieve this you have to do it manually.
3. You can’t zoom out more than a 9-image grid when you are on playback in spite of how large the hi-res screen is. Some folks would have preferred if it showed more photos.

Review 2: First off, this review isn’t going to follow the usual path of most reviews: Break all the component parts and rate them. No, I am just going to give you an overview of the 5D Mark II 21.1MP’s strong points and weak points and allow you to decide if the good outweighs the bad for you. I will also give you references so you can read up more if you want to get into more details and specifics (This is much like an executive summary with links to extensive details). So here we go…
Things You’ll Love About The Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21.1MP Full Frame CMOS Digital SLR Camera…
1. This camera gives you very high ISO performance. Super low light high ISO photographic tool with 25,600 ISO! Low 50 ISO allows photos at F/1.2 aperture out in bright sunlight for shallow DOF.
2. The image quality it delivers is simply fantastic. I know you might have heard a lot about the 5D’s low-light performance. I dare say it’s even better than you’d believe. You can actually get good pictures in darker rooms than you would have considered impossible before you get it. This is one camera you will have a hard time putting down.
3. The LCD screen is simply awesome. I dare say it’s about the best one ever put on a DSLR. If you have used the 1DS MK2 or 40D you will agree with me that the menus here are a lot easier to both understand and navigate. Another feature of note is the Live View feature. This allows for critical focusing. That is, it allows you to check how sharp your photo is in reality.
4. The build is solid. You get that great feeling of a good grip texture.
5. This one does video but to get best results with it, use a tripod. Do bear in mind, though, that the files can be huge. And, do keep your expectations of the video quality real especially if you are a videographer who has become used to top-level broadcast quality. This is a still camera with video and NOT a camcorder. If you get this distinction straight, you will agree with me that it’s top-of-the-class video.
6. The batteries do very well holding up charge. It also has a battery info screen that is really useful as it tells you the level of charge with each battery. This makes it a lot easier for you to keep track of things.
7. For folks who owned or used the original 5D, there have been massive improvements on the 5D Mark II 21.1MP. Here are just a few…
Canon has added weather sealing and dust reduction features. This means that it is now better resistant to the perils of outdoor use than its predecessors. This one comes with an expanded ISO range. To give you an idea, the ISO 5000 on the Mark II is equivalent to ISO 1600 on the original 5D. In addition, the black dot issue that you might have heard a lot of noise about? It has been fixed with a recent firmware update.
8. This is really great value for the features it delivers. It competes favorably with cameras costing hundreds of dollars more.
It’s recommended that you buy yours with the optional BG-E6 battery grip. You will have some added benefits if you do: The camera becomes taller and easier to hold and you can easily use 2 canon lithium batteries or similar batteries simultaneously.
Things You Might NOT Be Too Pleased With the Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21.1MP…
1. It doesn’t come with a popup flash (If you are operating at the level this camera allows you to, you shouldn’t have a problem with this).
2. It is evidently slower in shooting when compared with the 40D.
3. If you intend to cut corners on lenses, this isn’t for you. It does demand high end L lenses. NO, you really can’t do without them with this one.
4. You have huge files and that means you need larger memory cards. If, for example, you have an 8GB card, it would only hold less than 300 shots with the 5D set at RAW.
However, huge files also mean you get your images in a format where you can really manipulate things further (So I don’t know whether I should call this a disadvantage really. I just feel it’s important to point out so those who might NOT want to deal with large files will look elsewhere).

I am going to approach this review in a special way: I will list out the good points and the points that might NOT be so good about it making it easier for you to decide if it’s right for you or NOT (Take note, though, that there is a newer model of this camera. You can read up on that here: Canon 5D – Highly recommended). So here we go …
Good Points of the Canon EOS 5D 12.8 MP…
1. It is affordable for a full size sensor camera. The quality it delivers meets the requirements of most projects. The full frame sensor makes it possible for you to get those wide angle shots without any crop factor (This one gives you true wide angle photographs). You will love the image. The results remain excellent even when you make large prints.
If you are doing portrait photography, you’ll find it hard to beat the image quality it delivers. I dare say that you’ll even get superior results with it than the 1DS’s provided certain conditions are maintained.
2. The fact that this Canon 5D lets you shoot in RAW is something you will find very useful. Yes, you will have very huge files but it gives you the opportunity to try out a lot of creative stuff.
3. It works very well for photographers who have to shoot often in low light situations due to its very low ISO noise. You’ll also find that it is very good for noise sensitive shoots since it has low shutter noise especially if you compare it with the 20/30D.
4. It has a solid and sturdy build. While some folks might say it is heavy, I consider this to be the reassurance that I am holding a top camera (Personal opinion, though). But even at that, it’s NOT quite as heavy as the 1DS series even though it is full sensor.
5. It’s a good thing that its battery is interchangeable with the 20/30D. An advantage if you have them all.
6. Another thing you will find particularly appealing is the fact that the canon 5D is compatible with a lot of 3rd party products.
Here are Things That Some Folks Might NOT Be So Pleased With The Canon 5D…
1. This camera doesn’t cover up for poor lenses at all. You need good lenses because of the full frame sensor since it will make obvious both the good and the bad of your lens corners and edges. Otherwise a good quality in a camera, I have added this as a negative because getting good lenses don’t come cheap. And, unless you are a top professional, you might NOT be too happy to spend $100s just to get befitting lenses.
That said, if you don’t intend to spend some bucks on top lenses, I don’t think you should go ahead buying this camera. Look for something more modest. You simply aren’t ready for the leap yet.
2. If you want a camera that comes with flash, look elsewhere. This one doesn’t have one. But the truth is that built in flashes are NOT that useful when you are talking about photography at the level the 5D is supposed to expose you to. Another thing I think you should be aware of is that you should have a good sensor cleaning kit since you will need to clean its sensor every few months unless you use it very rarely and only change your lenses once in a while and do so indoors.
3. At 12.8M pixel you might NOT have enough for some assignments. It also has a lower burst rate than the 1DS MKII making it less suitable for motion photography.
If you are a field photographer then it isn’t ideal for you since it is NOT built to withstand challenging environments. Also, even though the 9 point sensor would be enough for most people, some professionals might still find it inadequate for quick focus and shoot. This might be the case for people who have been spoiled with the 45 point sensor of 1DS series.
Should you buy this camera or go for its newer model: Canon EOS 5D 21.1MP? My answer is: Check the pros and cons we have taken the pains to list here. If you don’t care about the cons we pointed out, then it’s the right camera for you. However, if you can’t live with those cons pointed out then you might want to look at some other cameras. Yes, this is a great camera. It gets a five star rating from me but isn’t right for just every photographer (Example, folks who specialize in high speed motion, sports and such).
